Rewritten with rage...
People are not religion, religion is not an identity. Religion is a hopeful, a way out. When there is nothing else, people have looked to the great beyond in belief that this world cannot function without a ruler. Maybe humans are afraid. Out of decency and supposed morals, people do the right thing, but without a higher power, who is there to govern those who do not follow societal rules? When people are chased and there is no trust in this world, when the last barrier is torn in the human psyche, we turn to religion in a last effort of faith to pray that there is someone there to save us. But in reality, does there exist a God?
Fear is a funny thing, a lonely thing. It can even drive us to do many silly and absurd things. Out of fear springs jealousy, obsession, ambition, greed, anger, power, and hate. All these feelings are like a mask for fear. When one is afraid, he/she will hide behind jealousy, obsession, ambition, greed, anger, power, hate. Until the fear inside is hidden so deep that the fear is no longer recognized.
Different people handle their fear differently. Fear drives some to become a better person, and some are driven into hateful monsters. Is this so bad? Losing your identity to your feelings. But how can that be when your identity consists of your feelings? People are described as happy-go-lucky, fun-loving, power-hungry, and many other terms that refer to the emotional side of a person. Emotions are what drive our actions and our actions make up our personalities. The ability to put a cap on our emotions comes from an aspect of our personality that derives from an action put forth by our emotions. How is it possible to give our feelings up without giving ourselves up?
When we have reached that stage of knowing; a state in which fear no longer exists in our eyes, will we lose our identity to the happy homogeny that is the world? Ambition is no longer driven by fear because fear no longer exists. With fear out of our lives, we are free to love all and cherish all. Will there no longer be a need to advance to the next technological plateau?
Death will no longer be feared and thus, medicine is no longer of use. The beauty of love as inspiration for paintings no longer needed because it is everywhere to be witnessed, coveted by none beholden by all. Cars, computers, big and tiny gadgets no longer needed, because we are perfectly happy without any addition to our lives.
This is the end of my story. It is not decided if it is a happy ending or a sad ending. But I do know that everyone is working to achieve this ultimate goal. Perhaps it is just the process of wanting to get there, the process of solving these problems. In pursuing these goals, is it not self-satisfying to those that feel the need to ‘better’ this world? Maybe even ambition driving us to want to solve these problems.
Sociologists want to educate those that hunger for higher learning, but who is to decide what higher learning is? In days, I’ve argued that there is a type of who believes that material necessities are what run the world. Material needs must be satisfied in order to be happy. In their eyes, fulfillment of their lives is to ride out their ambition. To succeed in life is to have a car, a house with a white picket fence, a dog (preferably a golden retriever) and 2.3 kids. Who is to decide that the happiness these people derive from their fantasy is wrong? They will go through life without knowing truth, without truly knowing themselves, but they will be happy. What is true happiness and what is the placebo effect of happiness? I think only the judgmental ones are willing to point this out to you.
